Slots Q & A

In this installment of our Slots Questions and Answers series we answer three new questions from All Online Slots visitors. If you have a question regarding online slots or slots in general please feel free to Contact Us.

Question : "I play online slots on a regular basis. I understand how the Random Number Generators work. At land-based casinos the payout percentage is worked into the RNG and the machine would have to be opened up to make a change in the payout percentage.

I assume the RNG would have to be changed or reprogrammed. My question is, that for online casinos, could the RNG payout percentage
on a particular slot machine, or all slot machines?"

Answer : You are correct in that for a land based casino to change a slot machines payouts they would have to order a new data board for the slot game. As most online casinos use one of five major software providers the casinos themselves have no control over the game payouts.

The percentages are controlled by the software provider. Individual casinos cannot change payouts on their slots. For this reason you will find the same long term payouts for all casinos operated by one particular software brand.

Question : "Do the higher denomination slot machines online have a higher pay out percentages like they do in land-based casinos?"

Answer : Interestingly enough, no. Online slots offer exactly the same odds of winning if you play a penny or if you play $100 per spin.

Question : "What happens when you win a jackpot online?"

Answer
: If you are lucky enough to hit a major progressive jackpot online several things will happen. In most cases the casino you won at will contact you to congratulate you and to find out how you would like your winning paid.

If it is your first cash out from a casino you may be required to provide the casino with some form of identification for proof of age and other details. Then you should receive your jackpot winnings anywhere from one day to one week in total. All online jackpots are paid out in lump sums not installments such as land-based casinos do. You may also want to consult with an accountant regarding tax matters depending on where you live.
