Sonic 7's (Power Spins™)

Power Spins Sonic 7's is a 5 reel, 9 line slot found at Microgaming powered online casinos. It is the first game they have released to have the Power Spins side bet option. The idea of a side bet has become quite common and is seen in quite a few land-based slots like More Chilli and 5 Dragons from Aristocrat.

You can play the game with either the Power Spins on or Off. With power spins off the maximum bet is 90 coins per spin and with Power Spin on the max jumps to 120 coins per spin. You can play less than max bet and still activate the power spins which cost 3X your line bet on each spin.

Playing the side bet activates the wild multiplier feature where each wild in a combination multiplies a win by X2. The multipliers are cumulative so two wilds give and X4 multiplier, three give a X6 multiplier and four give the best X8 multiplier. The wild multiplier feature multiplies all wins except the scatters and the top pay of five wilds.

* The pay table on Sonic 7's is dynamic which means that the values you see on the pay table are the total wins already multiplied by your bet per line. This has caused some confusion as at max bet the pay table shows the top jackpot at 200,000 coins. This is the correct value for the total win - this win is not multiplied again by your bet per line.

The Sonic symbols are the wilds and substitutes for everything but the Scatter symbols. Lining up five wilds on any active line pays 20,000 coins which is on the high side for the nine line slot category. If you play 10 coins per line the jackpot jumps to 200,000 coins.

After the top pay for the wild symbols, Sonic 7's has a good range of mid level pays. All of the other symbols look like they have come straight from a classic three reel game with several types of 7's, three types of Bars, a Bell and a Cherry. As with many classic slots there are pays for any mixed Bars or Sevens which is a nice touch.

The Blue 7's offer the second highest pay with a 2,000 coin win for five. The red 7's are next with a 1,000 coin with for five and the Silver 7's pay 750 coins for five of a kind. All of these wins can be multiplied by both your line bet and the wild multiplier feature if you have power spins active. This boosts the pay for the five Blue 7's to a potential 160,000 coins.

Sonic 7's has a scatter symbol but it does not activate any type of bonus. Pays for the scatters start at 180 coins and go up to 27,000 coins if you are playing max bet. It's worth noting that the scatter pays are paid on your base bet not including the side bet for the Power Spins feature.

We are not all that impressed with Sonic 7's. While it does offer some of the biggest jackpots in the nine line category the side bet is a bit strange. In most cases side bets offer something better in the bonus feature like extra spins or multipliers, In this case the side bet does boost the secondary pays but we're not sure this is enough to make it worthwhile.
