Nine line slot machines are some of the most popular games both at land-based casinos and at online casinos. There is no shortage of nine line games at casinos around the world but up until now there has been a lack of choices online

In 2003 this is finally starting to change ...

Update : February 2006
How things have changed in two and half years. There is now a massive range of nine line slots online. So many in fact that we had to give them their own category! This article is now more a historical look at the growth of the nine line video slot machine online.

Walk into a land based casino anywhere in the world and you are sure to see a wide range of video slots with nine lines. This is especially true in Australia where the "Pokies" manufactured by Aristocrat all seem to have at least nine lines. Online however there has been a major shortage of nine line games.

There were no 9 line slots online at all until late 2002. Now in mid 2003 we can finally say there there is a good range of games available. It is great to see that the online casinos and their software providers have taken notice of what players are asking for.

The first ever nine line game to appear online was Treasure Nile. It not only has 9 lines but features a scatter symbols and pays from left to right and right to left. The only problem is that Treasure Nile only comes in the 50 cent coins size so it has a max bet of $4.50. Because it is a progressive we don't recommend playing it at less than max. Unfortunately for many the $4.50 bet per spin is a bit over budget.

Several months after the launch of Treasure Nile, Microgaming decided to release a 5 reel, 9 line game for all budgets. 5 Reel Drive was an instant hit with players and was the model on which additional games were released about a month later. These new slots included Big Top and Reel Thunder.

Next to get in on the action was Playtech - a relatively new online casino software provider. They introduced Highway Kings and Captains Treasure. These two games made playing even more affordable as they came with coin sizes starting at just a penny. This meant you could be betting max for just 9c.

Finally this month, July 2003, Cryptologic the software provider behind big name casinos have released a range of ten new nine line games. We have to say that these are some of the best 9 pay line games we have seen online.

The games include La Fiesta, Hot Dog and Jungle King. The great thing about these nine line games is that they also all offer a bonus feature round much like their land based equivalent's. These second screen features increase the entertainment value and give you another way to win.

We can now in July 2003 at last say that the 9 line slot has truly come online. Visit our 5 Reel Slots section for full reviews of the games and information about where they can be played online. Good luck and enjoy the extra lines!
