Lucky Witch

Lucky Witch

Released for Halloween 2011, Lucky Witch is a 15 line video slot with a spooky theme and a range of bonus features. The game has stacked wilds but as they are not wild for all symbols the game in our opinion is more trick than treat.

Lucky Witch Slot Machine Review

Lucky Witch is the 2011 Halloween game release from Microgaming. It has some good points with stacked wilds and a big range of bonus features. It also has one negative feature which can be quite annoying - not something we usually look for in an online slot.

The game uses the 5 reel, 15 line format and has a maximum bet of 300 coins or 20 coins per line. The coin sizes start at 0.01 and go up to 0.20 so the max bet range is between 3.00 and 60.00 per spin. The game also has a pay table that changes based on your bet size so at max bet the jackpot displayed is the total win not the amount multiplied by your line bet.

The Lucky Witch logos are wild and stacked. Normaly this is a big plus in our opinion but in this case there is a catch. ** The stacked wilds only substitute for four of the nine symbols on the reels. This means you can get a lot of wilds on the screen and not get any wins which is not exactly ideal.

Still the stacked wilds can result in some big pays as they are wild for the Witch, Cat, Owl and Lizard symbols. Getting a wild as part of a win also doubles the win. Get five of the wilds on any active line and you win 1,000 coins multiplied by your line bet. The five Witch symbols also pay the same 1,000 coins or 20,000 coins at max bet.

The other symbols that are substituted by the wild pay between 500 and 400 coins for a five of a kind. The symbols that are not substituted by the wilds pay between 200 and 100 coins for five on an active line.

* If you manage to get the whole screen of wilds you win the games top jackpot of 1,000 coins on all 15 lines or 15,000 coins at one coin and 300,000 coins if you are playing the top 20 coins per line.

Lucky Witch has two types of bonus games. The free spins and the Mystery Bonus. The free spins are won by getting three or more of the scattered Vial symbols. You then win 13 free games. There is no multiplier on the free spins but the Witch symbol also becomes wild. This sounds great but the wilds then only substitute for three other symbols.

The Mystery Bonus is where Lucky Witch does stand out with four different bonus games. To win the Mystery Bonus you need to get three Mystery Bonus symbols on the screen. They only appear on the 1st, 3rd and 5th reels so you need one anywhere on each reel. You then move on to one of four bonus games. These are;

  • Secret Vault Bonus (View Screen)
Pick 3 from 12 symbols. The remaining symbols are then revealed and removed from the prize pool. You then get to pick one of three to get your final coin prize.

  • Spell Book Bonus (View Screen)
Pick one of three spell books to reveal an instant win multiplier. An Imp can appear to increase the selected multiplier. Win up to 52X your total bet on this bonus.

  • Magic Potion Bonus (View Screen)
This is a "Pick until Stop" style bonus where you get to keep picking until you either uncover the Skull which ends the bonus or the "Win All" which wins all prizes.

  • Pumpkin Bonus (View Screen)
You get three picks to find the pumpkin with the highest prize. After each pick you can take the win or try again for a better prize. You only get to keep one pick.

One one hand Lucky Witch looks like a great game with stacked wilds and lots of different ways to win. On the other hand you have stacked wilds that don't substitute for all of the symbols on the reels which can be a major negative. This is one of those games that you will either love or hate. In our opinion this game is more trick than treat.
