When we first saw the name of this slot game we thought that we were finally going to see an online slot with the same bonus feature as the highly popular Penguin Pays video slot from Aristocrat. The name is similar but this is not the case, Path of the Penguin is a fairly standard free spin video slot.

The game uses Microgaming's 25 line format and comes in six different coin sizes ranging from one cent to a quarter. You have the option of betting up to 10 coins per line so max bet comes in at 250 coins or $2.50 at the lowest coin size and $62.50 at the highest.

Top pay on the reels is 6000 coins for five of the wild penguins, second highest pay is 2500 coins for five scatters and third highest is 2000 coins for five of the walrus symbols. All of these pays are multiplied by your line bet so at max the top pay is 60000 coins.

The scattered ice cubes are the key to the bonus round. Hit three or more anywhere on the reels and you automatically win 5 free games and a chance to increase this on the pick a box stage (View Screenshot). Here you get to pick three ice cubes to smash. Each one awards either more free spins or a coin value prize. Once you have picked three your free spins begin.

During the free spins all wins are tripled. This means the maximum win grows to a big 180,000 coins for the five wilds. Unfortunately the free spins cannot be re-triggered which can be a bit annoying especially when you hit the scatters during the free games.

Overall, Path of the Penguin is a good quality slot that has a free spin feature with a bit of a twist. It's not the great sliding feature found on Penguin Pays but is is still a game well worth checking out.
