The game has an adventure theme and is loosely based on the novel of the same name. The Penelope symbol is wild and substitutes for everything but the scattered books. The Penelope symbol only appears on the middle three reels so there is no winning combination for five wilds.

The highest line win is 2,000 coins for lining up five skulls. Second and third highest line wins are 1,000 coins for five bags followed by 500 coins for either five coins or five gems. The A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 symbols make up all of the lower pays which for five symbols range from 200 to 100 coins.

In a bit of a twist the highest win during regular pay is not a line win. The scattered books pay up to 100 times your total bet or 2,500 coins at max bet. You need to get all five to get the top prize but getting three or more anywhere on the reels activates the bonus game.

On the bonus you are presented with two jars. You get to pick one with the hope of revealing a gem. If you reveal a gem you get a bonus win and get to pick again. If you do not reveal a gem you get a consolation prize of double your bet and the bonus ends. (View Bonus Screenshot)

The gems all pay different amounts starting win 5X your bet for the yellow gem and going up to 50X your bet for for the red gem and a big 100X your bet for the white gem. If pick correctly this bonus round can offer some huge jackpots.

While the base game of Solomon's Mines does not offer any really huge jackpots the bonus game makes up for this. If you like bonus video slots then it is well worth a look.
