Missouri Woman Wins $3 Million at Harrah's in Laughlin

A St. Louis area woman who laughingly said she was on an informal tour of U.S. gaming venues won $3 million on a Wheel of Fortune® dollar machine early Sunday morning at Harrah's in Laughlin, Nev.

Jill Steuber and her husband, Gerald, visited casinos in Mississippi as part of her 60th birthday celebration and were heading home to Owensville, Mo., when, on impulse they headed west. After playing in Arizona they stopped at Harrah's in Laughlin, a Colorado River resort community 90 miles outside Las Vegas.

"There has been such a funny series of last minute decisions building up to us being here to win this jackpot," Steuber said. "Last night after dinner, we were heading to our room when we decided to play a little more. I almost never play dollar machines but this time I did. I don't know what it means but I like it." She said she had invested $20 in the machine before winning the MegaJackpot progressive.

Both Steubers are retired and said that the windfall will give them more freedom to pursue their interests. They also hope to help with education costs for their five grandchildren. And they may not be done winning. "After a few more days here in Laughlin, we're heading to Las Vegas," Gerald Steuber said. "Who knows what will happen?"
