Untamed - Bengal Tiger Slot Machine Review

Untamed - Bengal Tiger is the first in a new series of "Untamed" games from Microgaming. It introduces some new game features including "Collect a Wild™", "Lucky Nudge™" and "Your Gamble™" which add some extra elements to the game play. As you would expect the game has wildlife theme with the Bengal Tiger being the star.

The game uses the popular 243 ways format which means you don't have to worry about pay lines. Simply get the same symbols in any position aligned left to right and you win. Like most 243 ways slots you do not have to bet on individual ways. Instead you just have to play 30 coins to have a chance at winning on all 243 ways. You can bet up to 15 times on each way for a 450 coin maximum bet.

It's worth mentioning that it took us a while to figure out that you could click the bet display indicator to change coin sizes. If you want to increase your coin size from the base 0.01 coin size you can access the higher bet levels 0.02 and 0.05 this way. You can also see your 5 highest wins by clicking the Win display. In our opinion this should be more clearly explained as a lot of players could easily miss this.

The top jackpot on Bengal Tiger comes in at just 500 coins for the five wild Bengal Tiger logos. This is clearly quite a small jackpot but there is a bit of a twist with two ways that you can get a whole screen of wilds and the jackpot on all 243 ways! This boosts the top jackpot to a very nice 121, 500 coins at the lowest bet level.

Due the wild reels features the rest of the pays on Bengal Tiger also come in quite low with the second highest win being 200 coins and the rest of the five of a kind pays coming in at between 175 and 60 coins. The fact that you can get wild reels really boosts all of the jackpots and all wins can be multiplied by up to 15 based on your way bet.

The first way to get the wild reels is via the Collect a Wild feature on the base game. Every time a Bengal Tiger wild appears on a reel one of the squares below the reel lights up. Light up all four and you get four free games with that reel wilds. If you get luck you can in fact get all five reels wild for four spins which pays the top jackpot four times.

The second way to get a whole screen of wilds is via the free spins. To win the free spins you need three or more of the scattered Eye symbols anywhere on the reels. This is where the second special feature the Lucky Nudge also comes into play.

If you get two Eye symbols on the reels and one just off the screen the Lucky Nudge bonus can randomly nudge the other symbol on to the screen to trigger the free spins. It's a great idea as if you just miss out on winning the free spins you have the excitement of whether or not the Lucky Nudge bonus will nudge a scatter on to the screen.

Once triggered the free spins award 20 free games with Trailing Wilds. The way the Trailing Wilds work is that every time a wild appears on the top or middle line that wild is held for the next spin and drops another wild into the position below. This means that if you get a full row of wild Bengal Tiger logos on the top line you will get a whole screen of wilds in the subsequent spins (as long as you have at least 2 more free spins remaining).

There are a couple of negatives with the free games. The first is that the free spins cannot be re-triggered. The second is that there is no additional multiplier on the free games and the third is that you can miss out on some big Trailing Wild wins if you hit a lot of wilds on the second last or last free game.

The third new feature introduced on Untamed - Bengal Tiger is the "Your Gamble" double up bonus. Instead of going for the now common Australian style red / black or suits gamble this feature offers something completely different.

The gamble feature has a wheel of fortune feel (Preview) and lets you select how much of a gamble you want to make (up to 20X your bet). Once you've selected your bet level hit Spin and if the pointer lands in the green area you win. You can also choose to bank half of your win before you start which is a nice touch.

The only thing we're not sure about with the Your Gamble feature is how the odds work. On a standard gamble feature you know you have a 50 / 50 of red or black or a 25% chance of picking a suit. On the Your Gamble feature there is no way to determine the odds and we could not find any help documents that did.

Apart of a couple of negative relating to the free spins, we really like Untamed - Bengal Tiger. It offers several new features which is always a good thing and the fact that there are two ways to get a whole screen of wilds really keep things interesting.
